Meridian F80 MERIDIAN F80 home entertainment system. Meridian in partnership with car manufacturer Ferrari has just released a high quality transportable hi-fi/DVD system. The F80 is a (deep breath) CD/DVD video transport with FM/AM/DAB radio, 80w amplifier and 2.1 speakers (left/right and sub-woofer) built in; amazingly, all of this is housed inside a sleek and stylish, compact cabinet. There are S-video and composite outputs to allow connection to a TV; you can also connect 1 analogue source, 1 digital source and headphones. Sonically, the F80 really belies its diminutive size. There is a real solidity to the sound care of the built-in sub; stereo separation is surprisingly good given that the speakers are built-in to the unit, and the overall sonic presentation is very impressive. Meridian utilise their DSP speaker technology, and there are several settings to cater for room placement. It is worth playing around with these, as they can make a significant difference to how the unit performs. Ferrari’s main input into the venture was to design the chassis to accommodate the speakers and sub. They use an alloy-injected composite to achieve the required level of rigidity. They’ve also lent their range of paint finishes! It comes in Black, White, Yellow, Red and Silver. |
