Blu-ray Home Cinema
Blu-ray media is the next step in high definition home cinema. In order to see your favourite films as they were meant to be seen, with crisp, sharp definition and devoid of the fuzziness common to older media, you cannot find a better option than to switch to blu-ray.
What is Blu-ray?
A blu-ray disc is the next generation of DVD, and works by storing the data in many layers. This means much more data can be stored on the disk. It is also referred to as a high density optical disc (HDOD).
The reference to 'blu' or 'blue' is because a blue laser is used to read the disk. Blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light and this enable the data to be stored more tightly packed together. Blu-ray was first developed in 2000, with prototypes available from 2003.
Blu-ray is currently supported by over 200 of the world's leading consumer electronics, computer, media, video game and music companies. The format also has support from all Hollywood studios. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on blu-ray disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month.
The blu-ray format was developed to enable faster recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), and data. The blu-ray format offers more than five times the storage capacity of standard DVDs. It can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. Triple layer discs are not common at present but are a likely development in the next few years.

In order to make the most of blu-ray discs you will need a good blu-ray capable DVD player and a high definition television or projector. For advice and assistance with this or any other aspect of your home cinema setup, call Grahams today on 020 7226 5500 or contact us online.
